The municipal authorities have highlighted that the high number of bids received will potentially lead to cost savings for the ongoing project currently in the bidding process. Nearly 60 companies have submitted proposals to the Estepona Town Hall, showing interest in carrying out the initial phases of the project aimed at lighting the suburban roads and parts of the coastal path. The significant volume of proposals received during the bidding process is expected to result in a reduction of the project’s base price. The contracted works involve lighting up 11 access roads to residential areas in Estepona, such as Isdabe, Cortes, Sun Beach, Avenida Flamenca, Boladilla, Nicola, Alberdina, La Cala, Monterroso, Guadalobón, and Arroyo Vaquero. The main goal is to enhance visibility and safety conditions for pedestrians in these areas by installing a total of 536 light points. A total of 27 proposals have been received for this project, which had an initial budget of 761,386 euros. Additionally, the installation of solar-powered streetlights to illuminate 15 spots along the coastal corridor is reaching the final stages of contracting. These areas include El Saladillo, Villacana, Hotel Ikos, Guadalmansa, El Velerín, Dominion Beach, El Castor, El Cristo, Doncella Beach, Hotel H-10, Guadalobón, Elba, Arroyo Vaquero, Horizon Beach, and Buenas Noches, where around 520 streetlights will be installed. The base budget for this second phase amounts to 738,636 euros (including VAT) and has attracted 29 proposals from interested companies. Deputy Mayor of Services and External Control, Blas Ruzafa, has emphasized that this is a comprehensive program aiming to provide efficient lighting to these areas, opting for solar streetlights and LED luminaires to prioritize energy efficiency. Public lighting constitutes a significant portion of public entities’ electricity consumption, underscoring the importance of enhancing energy efficiency in this sector to decrease electricity demand. Simultaneously, the City Council is already working on additional actions to be incorporated into the 2025 lighting plan, which are currently being assessed.
