The local government is dedicated to showcasing collections of high artistic value in the rooms that have been displaying funds from the Provincial Council for the past eight years. Estepona City Council has decided to double the area allocated to temporary art exhibitions at the cultural center Casa de Las Tejerinas. With the end of the loan period for the art collection from the Provincial Council, several rooms in this municipal facility are now available. The Department of Historical Heritage plans to use these new spaces for temporary exhibitions featuring significant works. Councilman Daniel Garcia explains that the goal is to host ambitious exhibitions of great artistic quality in these rooms. The additional square footage will also allow for a reorganization of the spaces, making some rooms more open and showcasing works such as paintings by the renowned realist painter José Marchá. These works form part of the City Council’s art heritage and are on display at Las Tejerinas. A new exhibition featuring contemporary art by Cuban artists from the 80s generation, titled ‘More was lost in Cuba-Homage to Aldo Menendez’, is currently on display until May 3. This exhibition is part of Jorge Reynardus’ collection and highlights artists who left Cuba and settled in the U.S., Spain, and Mexico. The Casa de Las Tejerinas hosted a total of 49 exhibitions in 2024, with plans for fifty exhibitions in the future. The building, originally owned by the Tejerina sisters, dates back to the 18th century and has been used for cultural purposes since 2011. It continues to be a hub for creators from various fields, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists. In addition to art exhibitions, the center also hosts literary events. Opening hours are from Tuesday to Friday, 09.00 to 20.00, and Saturdays from 09.00 to 14.00 and 16.00 to 20.00, with free admission.
