The Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center’s exhibition hall is currently home to a new display that delves into over 60 years of Spanish realism through the works of prominent figurative artists. One standout piece is an unpublished creation by the renowned artist Antonio Lopez, unveiled to the public for the first time. ‘Uncovering Truth’, on view until July 20, features 81 works including paintings, drawings, and sculptures by notable artists like Esperanza Parada, Amalia Avia, Julio López, Francisco López, María Moreno, Carmen Laffón, Antonio López, Isabel Quintanilla, Cristóbal Toral, and José Hernández. These pieces are sourced from institutions like Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Fundación Ávila, Fundación Sorigué, and Fundación Azcona, as well as private collections and family archives. Estepona’s Mayor, José María García Urbano, and exhibition curator, María Toral, have inaugurated this tribute to Spanish realists, showcasing works from 1956 to 2021. This exhibition offers a comprehensive view of the evolution in Spanish figurative painting. For the first time in Andalusia, ‘Uncovering Truth’ provides a unique opportunity to appreciate renowned artists who have left a lasting impact on Spanish art. Their dedication to artistic integrity, rational rigor, relentless exploration, pictorial sensitivity, and meticulous image construction is evident in their incomparable creations. The display also unveils an unpublished work by Antonio Lopez, ‘Fronts and profiles. César’ (2017, In process), featuring oil, pencil, and collage tracing paper on paper. The exhibition’s diversity and dynamism are enhanced by its exploration of various genres, including the human figure, still life, interiors, and landscapes. Each artist brings their own unique style, technique, and creative world to the table, united by a shared spirit and language of figuration that embodies contemporaneity and authenticity.
