The official ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 7, featuring the presentation of the ‘March 8 Awards’. This year, the awards honor the late historic activist María Espinosa de los Monteros and philosophy teacher Cristina García Aragón. Estepona City Council is once again participating in the International Women’s Day celebrations with a series of events happening throughout March. The official ceremony will kick off on Friday, March 7, at 12:30 pm in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall, where the ‘March 8 Awards’ will be handed out. In light of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Estepona’s beloved historic activist María Espinosa de los Monteros, the ‘March 8 Award’ will be posthumously awarded to her for her contributions to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Additionally, the award will recognize Cristina García Aragón, a Philosophy teacher at IES Mar de Alborán, for her dedication to promoting the legacy of María Espinosa. The event will feature a presentation by students from IES Mar de Alborán, showcasing ‘Illustrating the Conference of Maria Espinosa’. The program will include an exhibition of photographs and speeches by various students. The musical finale will be performed by Claudia Ballesteros Hernandez, a student at the same school. The commemorative activities will continue with workshops on Couple Breakup for CMIM users on March 11, 18, and 25, facilitated by psychologist Ana Jesus Andrades Ruiz. The workshops aim to empower women dealing with relationship breakups to make independent decisions and improve their quality of life. Other activities include a talk on ‘Sofonisba Anguissola, the elegant dissident’ on March 11, and a discussion on ‘March 8 with our elders. Experiences to share’ on March 13. The program will conclude with guided tours of the Castle of San Luis and the Mirador del Carmen Cultural Center on March 20 and 27, showcasing the new public spaces occupied by the Conservatory of Music, the Library of Contemporary Cultures, and the exhibition hall. Educational activities include workshops on affective-sexual education and coeducational training for students in various schools, focusing on self-esteem, self-knowledge, and gender equality.
