Over the past decade, the city has significantly increased its public green spaces, now boasting 57% more than before and double the national average per capita. To support this growth, the Estepona City Council has signed a new contract committing over 4.4 million euros to enhance machinery and personnel for the maintenance and conservation of green areas and beaches. With 781,000 square meters of public green space to care for, including ornamental planters throughout the streets, the council will increase the operating personnel from 135 to 154, hiring additional pruners, drivers, and assistant gardeners for seasonal tasks. Moreover, the council plans to replace 73 outdated machinery units with modern alternatives and acquire 26 new ones, such as bio-shredders, hedge trimmers, and pressure washers, totaling 188 machines. The fleet of vehicles will also see an upgrade with 27 new units, including trucks, vans, and motorcycles for more efficient irrigation. This investment of 1,581,364 million euros demonstrates the council’s commitment to adapting to the city’s expanding green spaces and urban development. The improvements extend to beach conservation, where staff will be reinforced and new machinery acquired to ensure pristine coastlines. Altogether, Estepona City Council will invest 4,417.421 million euros in enhancing sustainability and maintaining a healthier environment.
