The champion from the local area, currently holding the title of Spanish M55 Indoor High Jump Champion, clinches bronze medals in both high jump and long jump at the athletic event hosted in Florida. As reported by the Estepona City Council, Luis Merayo Cantalapiedra, the reigning Spanish Champion in the M55 Indoor High Jump category for 2025, achieved third place in both high jump, with a top leap of 1.65 meters, and long jump, with a best effort of 5.79 meters. These victories came during his participation in the World Masters Short Indoor Athletics Championships (WMACi) held in Florida, USA. Merayo, who also serves as the technical director of the Estepona Athletics Club, currently holds the titles of 2024 World Runner-up in the M55 outdoor high jump (Goteborg, Sweden), Bronze Medalist in the 2024 World Championships in the M55 outdoor long jump (Goteborg, Sweden), and 2025 Spanish Champion in the M55 indoor high jump (Antequera, Málaga). World Masters Athletics, founded as the World Association of Veteran Athletes (WAVA) in Sweden on August 9, 1977, underwent a name change to World Masters Athletics in 2001. The organization is responsible for organizing, regulating, and overseeing athletics for masters athletes aged 35 and above, as well as endorsing the World Masters Athletics Championships and other international competitions for masters athletes.
