Linking the vicinity of Playa Baños to Benamara, the fresh footpath is set to join the ongoing Estepona coastal corridor project, now at over 95% done. The latest addition will expand the pedestrian route in the Playa Baños-Matas Verdes locale. A dozen firms have shown interest in the project, offering proposals for the tender released by the City Council for the construction job. The upcoming segment will feature a 575-meter long wooden walkway, bridging the gap between Avenida de la Playa to the west and Marriott’s Playa Andaluza. It will also connect to the coastal areas of Punta de Baños-Casasasola and Saladillo beach, with plans in progress for the former and ongoing works in the latter. With a base price of 782,106 euros, including VAT, and a 5-month completion timeline, the project has attracted bids offering improved terms in terms of lower costs and shorter construction durations. Deputy Mayor Ana Velasco emphasizes the goal of providing continuity to the existing coastal promenade, aligning with current urban planning regulations. The extension has received approval from the provincial delegation of the Andalusian Regional Government’s Department of Sustainability and Environment, ensuring environmental protection. The pathway will feature wooden decking on soft structures to blend seamlessly with the surroundings, along with safety railings and lighting. The Estepona Town Council remains committed to developing an extensive coastal pathway, nearly finalized, with upcoming plans for Benamara, Bahía Dorada, and Atalaya regions currently in the works.
