The local government is working on modifying the municipal ordinance to give preference to residents who have been registered for at least 3 years. The initiative, proposed by Mayor José María García Urbano, aims to prioritize those living in Estepona when it comes to applying for VPO housing. The proposed amendment will consider the length of administrative residence in the municipality as a key criterion for selecting successful applicants. The City Council is aligning its regulations with the housing laws in Andalusia to ensure fair access to subsidized housing. Additionally, steps are being taken to expedite the process of providing subsidized housing to meet the urgent demand, particularly for vulnerable groups. By repurposing certain public land, the municipality plans to build subsidized rental housing without the need for extensive modifications to existing planning instruments. This approach will allow for the efficient use of land to address the housing needs of those facing difficulties in securing accommodation.
